Black History Month Motion

In 1995, Jean Augustine introduced a motion that was passed unanimously by the House of Commons to recognize February as Black History Month across Canada.

Today, Black History Month is recognized and commemorated by millions of Canadians from coast to coast to coast. It helps fill gaps of knowledge towards providing a more complete account of the history of Canada, which includes the contributions of generations of people of African descent over several hundred years.

Dr. Augustine continues to share her insights on leadership, equity, and Canadian history with audiences across the country
